We are a proudly Veteran-owned and family-operated small business located in Virginia, founded by Mike Barthlow and his son John. Mike's journey in woodworking began during High School in Texas, where he earned recognition as the most outstanding Industrial Arts student. His talent was further acknowledged with several state awards for original designs, including a Cherry end table and an art deco rocking horse, showcasing his exceptional craftsmanship.
Mike initiated his first woodworking venture in the back of his grandparents' antique shop, surrounded by the rich artistry and diversity of European antiques. This exposure ignited his creativity, leading him to pursue a design degree at the University of Pennsylvania. Although design classes clashed with football practice, Mike made a switch to the liberal arts and embarked on a diverse career path, including over 20 years in the Defense Communications industry and military service.
In 2022, Mike's son, John Barthlow, shared a similar passion for woodcraft, inspiring the inception of our family woodworking business. Since then, we've been exploring various designs and collections part-time, aiming to carve our niche in the expansive woodworking market. The year 2023 marked a significant commitment to our venture, as we launched an Etsy site and actively participated in craft fairs across Virginia.
Our primary goal is to unveil the innate beauty of wood through high-quality, durable craftsmanship. Recently, our focus has been on cutting boards and charcuterie boards, allowing us to channel our creativity and innovation into showcasing unique wood grains and patterns.
